Peel Trident Was a Rolling Sauna
The 1964 Peel “Trident” was supposed to be the car of the future. Instead, it looked like a fishbowl on wheels and drove like one, too. Powered by a 49cc engine, this three-wheeled microcar had a terrifying 4.2 horsepower—meaning pedestrians could probably outrun it in a race. But speed wasn’t even the worst part.
The bubble canopy turned the interior into a mobile greenhouse, leaving drivers sweating like they were slow-roasting in an Easy-Bake Oven. The three-wheel setup made handling more of a suggestion than a guarantee. The Peel “Trident” was less transportation and more a hilarious mistake on wheels.
