Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time

Mustang II Had No Muscle

The Mustang II arrived in 1974, and let’s just say it wasn’t the Mustang people wanted. Ford shrank it down, gave it a Pinto-based platform, and took away the muscle that made the original Mustang legendary. Blame the 1970s oil crisis—gas prices were climbing, and Ford figured a smaller, fuel-efficient Mustang was the way to go.

Ford tried to sell it as a smart, fuel-efficient ride, but let’s be honest—no one bought a Mustang to save gas. Sure, over 1.1 million people still bought one, probably out of loyalty or confusion. Even though it won Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1974, it became a symbol of disappointment.
