Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time

AMC Ambassador Was Big for No Reason

There’s a fine line between big and bloated, and the AMC “Ambassador” tripped over it face-first. By the 1970s, AMC was struggling to keep up with Ford, GM, and Chrysler, so they did what any desperate car company would do—they made their car bigger for no reason.

The 122-inch wheelbase made it look massive, but here’s the kicker: it wasn’t any roomier inside than smaller AMC models. Then came the 5-miles-per-hour bumpers in 1974, adding an extra 8.2 inches of awkwardness without making it any safer or more functional. By 1974, the “Ambassador” was more of a diplomatic disaster than a luxury sedan.
