Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time

Ford Edsel Was a $250 Million Mistake

The 1957 Ford “Edsel” was supposed to be the next big thing, but it ended up being one of the biggest flops in automotive history. Ford spent $250 million developing and marketing this car, only for buyers to laugh it off the lot.

The “horsecollar” grille was mocked for looking like a toilet seat, and the Teletouch push-button transmission was so unreliable that it sometimes shifted gears all by itself. Some “Edsels” rolled off the factory floor missing parts, leaving dealerships to piece them together like an IKEA project gone wrong. By 1960, the “Edsel” was dead, surviving just three years before Ford pulled the plug on this disaster.
