Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time
Elcar Zele Was Slow, Small, and Expensive
The 1975 Elcar “Zele” looked more like a washing machine on wheels than a car. Built by the Elcar Corporation, this tiny electric vehicle was based on the Italian Zagato “Zele,” but it had none of the flair you’d expect from a European design. It was slow, expensive, and barely functional.
Powered by a 4.8-horsepower electric motor, the “Zele” had a top speed of just 25 miles per hour, meaning it was too fast for sidewalks but too slow for actual roads. The 50-mile range wasn’t terrible, but considering its $4,500 price tag, buyers were better off with a real car.
