Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time

Chevy Citation Proved Recalls Are Necessary

Winning “Motor Trend’s Car of the Year” in 1980 should have been a good sign, but for the Chevrolet “Citation,” it was more like the start of a long, embarrassing decline. GM’s first attempt at front-wheel drive was supposed to modernize the compact car, but instead, it became one of the most recalled cars in history.

Brakes? They had a habit of failing. The frame? Bent under stress. The transmission? Sloppy at best, wholly broken at worst. Some seat tracks weren’t even bolted in properly. The U.S. government got involved because the “Citation” was that dangerous, and by 1985, Chevy gave up.
