Would You Drive These Disasters? The 45 Worst Cars of All Time
Fuller Dymaxion Was Futuristic—and Terrifying
What do you get when you mix a zeppelin, a minivan, and a death wish? The 1933 Fuller “Dymaxion” was a three-wheeled, teardrop-shaped experiment that looked cool but drove like a disaster waiting to happen.
Designed by Buckminster Fuller, the 20-foot-long vehicle could carry up to eleven passengers, had impressive fuel efficiency, and promised a future where cars might even fly. But first, it had to master driving, which it never did. The single rear wheel handled all the steering, making it unstable at high speeds. One flipped during the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933, killing the driver and destroying any chance of mass production.
