Slowly, the grass parted, revealing small, dark creatures crawling toward them. Mia’s eyes widened in recognition. “They look just like Lizzy,” she whispered in awe. The vet shook his head. “They aren’t pets. Stay back.” His words were firm, his body tense. This was not a harmless gathering of swamp reptiles.
