Life on Mars? Check Out NASA’s Most Convincing Evidence Yet
Martian Avalanches: Nature’s Fury
Hurricanes aren’t the only natural disasters we’d face on Mars; the Red Planet has its own avalanches, too. If humanity ever settles there, these powerful phenomena could pose a real threat. Similar to Earth, Mars experiences temperature changes that cause ice to melt. However, this Martian ice is made of carbon dioxide.
When it melts during warmer temperatures, the thawing carbon dioxide can trigger massive avalanches on the planet’s cliffs. One of these breathtaking avalanches was captured in a photo taken in 2010, revealing the raw power of nature on Mars. If we ever make this planet our home, we might have more to worry about than just the cold.
