Another Haunting Face on Mars
In a photo taken by the Viking 1 and 2 orbiters, another formation strikingly similar to a human face was spotted. This unusual feature quickly became one of the most well-known “faces” identified on the Martian surface, and everyone talked about it. Contributing to the mysterious appearance was that these initial images were low resolution.
However, the reality became clear when higher-resolution images of the same spot were later obtained. The so-called face was nothing more than a mountainous structure that didn’t resemble a human at all. We’ve often heard that first impressions can be misleading, which couldn’t be more accurate, especially from afar.
